What exactly is the difference between "conquering the world" and carrying out "regime change" in unfriendly countries and installing friendly regimes there a la Afghan? Americans would not support world conquest. It seems Americans do not mind it all that much as long as it is presented as "They are evil, we are good" et cetera. American public is no less susceptible to marketing than the rest of the world.
