Think basically WS wanted one of their own-not necessarily for the economy..

like they ask for rate cuts and liquidity now and then (and get it as they did and got in the mid to late '90s)..

same thing in their choice for politics too-not because if xx proposal is passed it will help the economy but because it helps themselves (more relatively at the very least, and that is the key). jmo

btw read that Bentsen was replaced by Rubin eight years ago to the day that O'Neill quit.
