Last year itself (1st half) I read in Barrons (think it was Abelson's column) that a group of eminent economists (fair number of them collectively) faxed a letter to the folks in charge that the urgent need was there to resuscitate the economy. I remember that the article went on to say that history has shown us that when such a thing happens (ie a reminder comes from economists) that it is already a tad late. And trust things to move fast through all the legislation procedures. So by the time any such stimulus package is passed, it would be already late.
