Signal Technology Awarded Power Conversion System Modernization Contract for Electronic Countermeasures Applications; Award From U.S. Air Force Is Valued at $3.5 Million
BUSINESS WIRE - December 09, 2002 07:00
DANVERS, Mass., Dec 9, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Signal Technology Corporation (Nasdaq: STCO) today announced the receipt of a contract from the U.S. Air Force, Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, to upgrade and modernize Band 3 and 4/5 high-voltage power conversion systems for the AN/ALQ-131 aircraft electronic countermeasures (ECM) jamming pod. The contract is valued at $3.5 million.

The AN/ALQ-131 jamming pod protects military aircraft by altering the flight path of the enemy's incoming radar-directed weapons. One of the most extensively deployed ECM systems ever built, the AN/ALQ-131 is certified on numerous U.S. Air Force fighter and transport aircraft platforms, as well as those of several allied nations.

"Earlier this year we established a major presence on the AN/ALQ-131 as supplier of Band 4 and 5 transmitters, and this power conversion system modernization award further expands our participation in ECM applications," said Signal Technology Chairman and Chief Executive Officer George Lombard."

"This award was based on Signal Technology's technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of the AN/ALQ-131 ECM/Radar high-voltage power supplies," said President and Chief Operating Officer John Cotumaccio. "It also reflects our ability to apply this expertise in proposing a cost-effective modernization program that will reduce obsolescence while improving reliability and maintainability."
