Mike and Zonder -- after watching 60 Minutes yesterday, I wondered whether the lyrics to the song posted by Zonder are accurate. 60 Minutes strongly suggested that there was no nuclear threat from Iraq, and that Bush has used marketing principles to time the focus on war with Iraq with the Nov elections. Cynical? Of course. Plausible? Damn right! Keep in mind that Bush Sr. was in the center of the arms-for-hostage deal that led to the freeing of the Iranian hostages minutes after Reagan was inaugurated. When PBS released the story of the arms-for-hostages, they concluded, (I'm quoting from memory). "These charges, if true, constitute treason." We never got an alternative explanation of the hostage release.
If Bush is using the Iraqi situation solely for political advantage, I feel betrayed. I don't expect an admission, of course, but I'm going to watch this one carefully.
OTOH, my conviction is that the inspectors will prevent Saddam from being a threat, and that we will not be able to justify a war. In the long run, I'm glad the inspectors are back in.
