I have no problem with gun registration. For the same reasons you cite. Yes, if the US tries to take part of Canada we'd use our guns. Then I fail to see why you would have a problem with the USD defending its territory. Just before a laser guided daisycutter hit me, I'd shoot myself. LOL!!! Your ancestors would curse you. They acquitted themselves rather well when called upon. I live in a good, quiet neighborhood. Well, mostly. A few months ago, a guy on the block behind us had too much to drink, and took his own family hostage and threatened to kill them. When the dust finally settled, the cops were able to talk him into giving up and no one was hurt. But this guy had a GARAGE that was literally filled with ammunition. You have to wonder about people who think it necessary to have their own private arsenal.
