It is true enough that I am trying to fill in the gaps. Although I am much younger, I took a similar course, so it makes some sense, and fits in as an extrapolation of what I know with certainty about them. I never said that they kept their '60s beliefs. I tried to show how they came to reject them. Horowitz is no more shrill, as far as I can tell. I used to read polemics with the same rhetorical conventions on the Left all the time, in the early '70s. I deplore it, but some people find it hard not to be reflexively combative.
