Thanks for publishing the old SDS Port Huron manifesto, though I can't imagine what relevance it has for this thread. Tom Hayden wrote much of that and, if you've read any of his books, you will see the style.

This is a classic SDS statement:

In social change or interchange, we find violence to be abhorrent because it requires generally the transformation of the target, be it a human being or a community of people, into a depersonalized object of hate. It is imperative that the means of violence be abolished and the institutions -- local, national, international -- that encourage nonviolence as a condition of conflict be developed.

That little paragraph is not quite Hayden's style, reads a bit more like a committee produced one. But it's an accurate representation of the commitments.
