Not that the E-wave thread needs any defending, but it is a core piece of Elliot methodology to always have a bullish count and a bearish count. The biggest value to Elliot that I've found is in recognizing the difference between activity in the direction of the trend (impulsive or motive) and activity against the overall trend (corrective). It also leads one to think like a contrarian, and emphasizes some of the more useful aspects of technical analysis. It incorporates general sentiment regarding the phases of a market move - disbelief, recognition, and capitulation - that are definitely useful inputs.

It's OK that it doesn't get much respect. Whenever anything gets too much of a following, it stops working by definition.
