This is the sort of pattern I had in mind.

The author implies outlandish views on the part of the mainstream which he counters with reasonable views from the dissenters. It's apples and oranges, intended to make the opposition look ridiculous. A fair comparison would pit moderate Kyoto supporters against moderate Kyoto opponents or extreme supporters against extreme opponents.

I think it makes some good points.

I agree it makes some good points. It just doesn't do so fairly, IMO.
