GD - how much of that short position is boxed?
If a lot is boxed then what you suggest has no meaning.
Short 1M shares of EXPE in one acct.
Long 1M shares of EXPE in another.

At some point massive selling of EXPE during weakness with a buy ready in place at a pre determined target the MM's WILL hit for you to get the order.
Cover stand back and let the shorts get squeeezed again.

In fact - during the plunge short anothe 1/2 million shares and buy back 1.5M shares.

Eventually all the short shares are transferred from those who got squeezed out to some SOB that is fully boxed and at the right time, will unload cover etc.

So If a substantial portion of short is boxed, buy to cover vs buy or whatever you suggested could be meaningless.

I have no way of telling what % is boxed.

Thoughts?
