Chris-- Indeed AAPL had a great day on 7/18 (or I should say a great evening, or great after hours on 7/17). I am Macintosh user. It is no doubt Mac is better than PC technically. I just afraid that Amelio will lead Apple to a wrong way. IBM almost died when they gave their rights and techneques away. Amelio is repeating the same mistake. He gave the rights to Motorola and others almost for free. But that won't bring Apple more market shares. Instaed, Apple will have to go as IBM did to struggle the huge competitions for years. Can you image that Apple's price beats Motorola's? No way! Motorola use their own processors to build Macs, but Apple have to buy the processors from Motorola. Most of the core technicians of Apple left for Microsoft and others since Amelio joined Apple. Can you image that Apple can walk well without brain? No way! Others will enjoy to use Apple's techneque, but Apple itself has to spend more on more competitions created by itself. Look at those whom Amelio hired, a batch of loosers he collected by yard sale from National Semi. and IBM, you may get the same conclusion.
