Jay, recall that the first 19th century trader-Westerners that gained an audience with the emperor of China tried to impress the imperial court with an array of fanciful clocks, with cunning mechanisms. "All this to know "What time is it?" I just need to look at the sun, and I know!!" Obviously, not well received! The Chinese wanted gold and silver. The British finally came up with ...! Opium! as a trade good. China churns out every imaginable consumer good for export. What can the West offer back? Anything tangible? What do you see in your travels?
