Uh oh-- Russia may have to attack Iraq in order to preserve its oil contracts:

Iraq severs oil contract with 3 Russian companies
MOSCOW. Dec 12 (Interfax) - Iraq notified three Russian companies that it is breaking a contract with them to develop
an oil field in the Arab country, one of the companies said on Thursday.

Lukoil, Zarubezhneft, and Machinoimport received the notice that they were barred from the Qurna 2 field in a letter
signed by an Iraqi deputy oil minister, Lukoil spokesman Alexander Vasilenko told Interfax.

"We can't understand how a law passed by the Iraqi parliament can be torn up by a petty official in the Iraqi Oil
Ministry," he said.

"We are carefully studying this letter and think that since we haven't broken a single clause of the contract, we will be
defending our rights in line with international law.

"It seems that we have reliable defense from Russia and that everything is being done in appropriate quarters to stop
this trivial blackmail from getting the upper hand."

A government source told Interfax that Lukoil President Vagit Alekperov notified the Russian leadership about the Iraqi
move.
