Domestic Dubya/ Bush the bold
newsandopinion.com | President Bush overhauled his economic team this week with brutal swiftness.

In a single day, he cut loose Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill and National Economic Adviser Larry Lindsey - and pretty quickly stuffed in replacements.

This kind of move makes sense only if the president intends to launch a tough economic campaign of his own. The word around town is that he's planning a five-part tax cut plan which won't be Reagan-bold, but it still will be far more adventurous than most Democrats can stomach.

So we'll have a fight -- Democrats bemoaning the deficit, Republicans pushing tax cuts.

This is a great thing. It will force politicians to take a stand, and it will mark the first time the president will behave as boldly on the domestic front as he has so far in the war on terror.

The president often has said that he learned from his father that political capital vanishes unless you use it. Now, it appears he's about to put that lesson into action.
