From Ted Nelson at ted.hyperland.com;

yep, read a lot of Ted Nelson in my time working with hypertext. And that piece could have been written at any time since 1994 and said the same thing. Moreover, as much as I love his concepts, it is as lacking in concrete directions, proposals as all his stuff. Nelson was a visionary, no question; but he doesn't strike me as being in a position to complain, given that he absented himself from the business of applying his vision.

Rant off.

Reason for the rant. I spent a great deal of political capital to get Brown University's Intermedia system loaded on a few special computers at my university; and spent more than a little time working with a couple of other faculty members, fixing up courses. We bought into Nelson's stuff.

Just got it up and running and my friends at Brown informed us that the money from Apple was not going to be forthcoming and Brown was stopping all but the most meager support for Intermedia. Took me several years to recover some credibility on computing issues.
