I have a friend who has held mid- level political appointments in a couple of administrations. In seeking employment, he never dealt with anyone senior. Instead, he dealt with middling people he knew from law school or other jobs he had had, and they sent his name forward. I would bet that Bush had no idea the younger Scalia even wanted the job until his name turned up in a staff memo.......
