Right. Lott only said that America would be better off if the Dixiecrat segregationists had won the Presidency... and said he was 'proud' his State had voted for them in the Electoral College.

Probably worth noting that in '48 when the election happened, Blacks couldn't vote in Miss., and ran a lynching risk if they tried... that might help account for Mississippi's Electoral vote.
