OT: I got a strange reaction on this one....

This is the first draft, but the friend who I showed it to for critique, started laughing out loud, but he wouldn't tell me why....just kept laughing....and i didn't have the heart to refine it...

I've probably messed up somewhere....maybe big time...but couldn't see where....maybe a kind soul here can help me understand !

Too much noise everywhere, life’s been really getting to me
The acrid smoke of the fervent dreams makes the future hard to see
The girl with brown eyes, in the autumn of her youth
She stares ahead in neutered silence of her own unwholesome truth
For every man is blind with greed and fear, trapped in his individual cell
And you’ll find me lugging my bags along the wretched gates of my personal hell

Once I was a dreamer till real life kicked on the door
Turning all my tender dreams to unaffordable luxuries of the yore.
But the sun still shines and the world goes on searching for an untold lie
And you sit back and watch the best years of your life pass you by
When all else is turned to dust and the winter has settled within
You are torn by conflicting choices simply trying to punch a decent day in

Life seems bleaker by the day and the world is getting broke
Makes you wonder if you’re still alive or could this be some kind of a bad joke.
The curse that I was born with forever imprisons the two of us
I think of it as bondage but my friends they call it good progress.
So you pay your debts to all those you meet, the Jacks and Jills and Jims and Jones
And all the friends and foes and hangers on, the ones that care and ones that won’t

Indifference is all thats left for what was once dear to heart
And you see friends bought and sold like a piece of lousy art
You grope for right expressions for all those things you wish to convey
But the brain gets kinda foggy, and words don’t mean anything, anyway.
So you set your gaze on the out-beyond as you juggle the coins of life and death
And the lone little cloud in the sky strives to quench the thirst of the entire parched up earth.
