You care to share any tidbits on the book?

I started to read an old English tome on the Ottoman empire, but it was too boring so I never finished it. By 1914, Turkey was considered the "sick man" of Europe, but the real issue was probably access to oil fields.

I know the Ottomans adopted a "Pax Romana" attitude to their conquered territories, at least in the early stages. They were quite advanced and drew on Islamic scholarship in a number of areas. Then they decayed. I really don't know why.
