Captain Jack,

Message 18335292

You have resorted to quite a bit of name calling in reference to me and I think you will be hard pressed to find a post where I have done the same to you.

I was curious as to where you draw the line about holding a gun to an innocent head and I think some people got my point.
It is fine if you did not and I will not try to make you understand.

I don't condone Tim's actions on that fateful day.

I feel a great deal of empathy/sympathy/sorrow for this man and feel some distress over what happened to him for a number of reasons that only a few people will even begin to understand - but really only Tim will know. This doesn't mean that I approve of taking a pretend gun to someone's head.

I don't condone what supposedly at happened at Mai Lai. Even the Captain admitted he lied about the circumstances after he could no longer be brought up on perjury charges..or at least that is what I have read.

I don't condone raping and sodomizing innocent women and murdering babies in a drainage ditch.

However, I do have empathy for our soldiers. Those that were not there cannot fathom the hell...even the wives, mothers, and children of those that were there will never truly know the torment.

So, just as with Tim, I don't condone the actions but I do have empathy.

The irony of my comments is that Tim had a very strong view about Vietnam and a strong dislike for Jane Fonda and might be making a few comments in heaven or hell or whereever he is because I used an example of Vietnam to try to bring home the point to you about holding a gun to an innocent head.

You don't have to approve of the actions to have empathy.
You are a hardened war veteran. You paid your dues.

Let those that wish to feel sadness over Tim's death do so in peace.

I posted my words to Tim in a permanent record for my own reasons..and that is all I really came here to do.
