RC,
If you look at the noise the North Koreans are making and the secret, newly exposed, nuclear weapons program of Iran, one can imagine the results of letting saddam off the hook now. He has the worlds largest stockpile of non-nuke WMD of any rogue state and the checks and balances that exist in Asia and within Iran do not exist in Iraq. Japan, Russia, South Korea and China will work to bring NK back to reality. In Iran the changing political situation makes an Iranian bomb, 3 years out, far less threatening. But in Iraq, there is no regional power or powers to contain Saddam. And the natural counterweight, the feckless European are so fearful that they seemingly are comfortable moving back to the twin pillars of their foreign policies in the 20th century--anti semitism and appeasement.
There is a small article in the NYTimes today about how australia will not committ support to the war against iraq for fear of more terror strikes. The Euro left apparently has affected the brave Aussies too.
Al Quaida would have been declared the winner already except for the US and Great Britain and perhaps the Chinese and Russians in different parts of the world. Whats new about that? The US, GB and Russia defeated the Nazis and the Chinese bravely fought the Japanese along with other Asian states. The major Euro states were either on the wrong side(Germany,Italy) or collaberators(France). Today these same states appease bin laden and in what could have been a great move to include an Islamic state in the EU, they let financial concerns and anti-Turk bigotry get in the way. No surprise that Turkey is onboard with the US. Are they again doing al quaidas bidding there too? Mike
