>>reform/change comes from within<<

Yes, but we can help. Other countries helped us during our revolution against the Brits, most notably France, Poland, and Spain.

One of my ancestors fought with Louisiana's Governor Galvez (France was a Spanish colony then) behind the British lines attacking British forts along the Mississippi river basin.

The Louisianians of New Spain gave the Americans a lot of help, and the Americans have always been grateful. I can join the DAR through that ancestor (among others). (Daughters of the American Revolution -- but my hair isn't grey enough yet.)

When the US liberated Paris during WWI, General Pershing stood next to the tomb of the Marquis de Lafayette, who helped liberate the US during the American Revolution, and said, "Lafayette, we are here." We were returning the favor, you see.

I have always thought it was a great shame that the US turned its back on the Shah of Iran -- that was Jimmy Carter's legacy, and I deeply regret it. I think we are obliged to assist the forces of democracy whereever they may be found.
