What you are suggesting is a mathematicl impossibility. Cannot be done. No question. It's quite possible indeed. Market Makers short "naked" all the time. Naked shorting doesn't require access to borrowed shares. Theoretically, one can short much more than actually exists in the float. I used to do it through a Canadian broker but the retail shorter isn't allowed to short naked in the USA. best... LIG
