At least this popular myth has been put to rest : Arafat Accuses Bin Laden of Exploiting Palestinians

#reply-18338118

LONDON (Reuters) - Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat (news - web sites) has ordered al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) to stop exploiting the Palestinian cause to further his own interests.

In an interview with Britain's Sunday Times newspaper, Arafat said he believed bin Laden and his al Qaeda network were using the Palestinian campaign for independence to gain support in the Islamic world.

"Why is bin Laden talking about Palestine now? ...He never helped us. He was working in another, completely different area and against our interests," Arafat told the paper.
.....

bin Laden in all likelihood has nothing but contempt for Palestinians as well as Arabs in the Maghreb region (Algeria...), for their being polluted by European influence. Witness his open remarks about how killing Muslims in the WTC on 9/11 was justified because they committed the capital crime of living in the West, one gets the picture.

Anyhow, so much for the old canard about dropping support for Israel magically solving all the USA's problems with Islamist terrorism, the idea just never washed.
