Christine, First of all, I never said that I don't believe my tax dollars should be given to poor people. That is just something you have made up again.

Christine, as I said I would prefer changing the entire tax structure to a national sales tax, but to say the mortgage deduction is the same as welfare is ludicrous.

When a person buys a home he or she is putting something into the economy by encouraging the building of houses. Or hadn't you noticed that housing starts are a major factor in determining the health of the economy. The government has decided that to encourage more Americans to buy a home, and thus create more jobs, and to provide an incentive for the RISK a person assumes when they purchase a home, to offer a tax incentive.

When a person is on Welfare he or she is not giving to the economy in any way. Except maybe the sales tax they pay at the counter. A very big difference Christine.

There is also the sociaeconomic issue of stability to neiborhoods and schools as well as a stable tax base that people buying homes provides.

I recommend you retake econ 101 Christine. Jeez!

Michael
