I'm talking about the ongoing deal, started with Nixon, in which the Reps aggressively courted white Southerners by using the code words of racism.

I have no doubt that happened. Everybody on both sides is so good at it now that nothing has to be said. It is unusual for a Politician of Lott's stature to slip that bad.

From a technical Political viewpoint, which is the one we can use to communicate without hollering at each other, It is obvious from the last election that Bush, et al, have been totally unsuccessful at getting any Black or Brown vote increase.

What worked for them was increasing the turnout of the Male White vote and, surprisingly, an increase in the Female White vote, especially in the Suburbs. That seems to be a "War" thing with the ladies, possible due to the "Nesting" instinct to protect the young. :^)
