Actually, the evidence suggests that African Americans in Mississippi havent really embraced ole Vacant Lott:

"According to the Joint Center for Political and Economic Statistics, in his 2000 Senate race Lott won a pathetic 5 percent of the black vote. This despite the fact that Lott's opponent, Troy Brown--a former administrator at Mississippi Valley State University who had never held elective office--was outspent by a staggering 100 to 1."
