I was born in NC, at Cherry Point, courtesy of the US Marine Corps. My only memory of NC is one from the crib, in a house.

I think my father was pretty darn enlightened for his age and background. He could have taught me racism, but he didn't. That's because he wasn't a racist himself. He was a southerner, and they have a different life experience than northerners.

Racism in Montana is primarily centered around the Reservations, of which there are several. I have to say it goes both ways. I've met some very bigoted native Americans. The paternalistic reservation system does them more harm than good. The Alaska plan is recent and is much more enlightened. It empowers and enriches the natives, while other reservation systems enslave them in poverty.
