Dear J.F.: the purpose of the MAXIMUM penalty is deterrence. Unfortunately when these slippery attorneys can drag out an appeal process for an average of 10 years there IS NO DETERRENCE. Just as life in prison is no deterrence. For many of these animals that is an IMPROVEMENT in their life style. I agree DNA testing when applicable should be used. I have no desire to punish anyone who is innocent. But, when a heinous crime, deserving of the death penalty is proven beyond a reasonable doubt, and when we use the latest scientific evidence if appropriate to establish guilt, THEN, I say we should have PUBLIC EXECUTIONS just like in the days of old. It should all happen HOURS after final guilt established. A rope and tree, DOES WONDERS in deterrence as you watch em jump around like a chicken with its head cut off. Needle business is too sanitary and doesnt fulfill the purpose. JDN
