The problem is the double standard. I did not see any calls for Clinton to resign when he made what is obviously an insensitive ethnic comment. (I remember another one he made about Italians too so he hit both sides of my family tree). The media still quotes J. Jackson extensively despite his "hymietown" and other lapses. No one called on Byrd to resign when he used the "n" word. There are many other examples. Lott is also guilty of insensitivity and I do think he should step down from his leadership position because we should expect more from our leadership, i.e., the comment was inexcusably stupid and also he is generally ineffective as a leader and this incident is unilkeyl to improve the situation. This is a good excuse to remove him and keep the Bush agenda on track.
