I heard Lott in one of his apologies say he took responsibility for his statement. This phrase " taking responsibility" for anything was officially rendered meaningless when Janet Reno "took responsibility" for Waco. Now it has descended below zero and actually means "I take any and all means to weasel out of any consequences for my action".
