>> am FOR us pressuring Israel out of occupied Palestinian land. I am AGAINST rewarding suicide bombing.

Me too.

>> am just curious what you propose the US should do about its Israel policy? If you had it your way, what should the US do?

I am not an expert in peace-negotiating and nation-building. Nor am I naive enough to believe that it is an easy process. But my problem with US policy is that they are not even trying to be hardline and fair, DEMANDING an end to the conflict. I would just like to see the US treat Israel without the mind-blowing double-standard of today. I can't believe that our leaders consider them a democracy which must be protected, when in fact their democracy is a farce and "democracy" itself doesn't mean "right" or "good," witness "democratic" Nazi-germany or Apartheid South Africa. I can not understand why we strictly sanctioned Apartheid South Africa yet give Israel so much love and monetary aid and military might. I can not understand why Israel gets away with so many human rights crimes while the US pretends nothing wrong happened. I can not believe that Israel ignores so many UN resolutions with no retribution. Etc., etc.

I think your point about how, if we help NOW, that will only serve to encourage suicide bombers in others later. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. I think it's more important to look at it for the here and now. Right now, people are suffering and dying every day on both sides and we have a duty to do our best to stop it.

I'm sure we could spin some way to make it look like something had changed with Palestinian leadership which prompted the US to act. My greatest wish is that someone like Martin Luther King Jr. emerged as a Palestinian leader, teaching non-violent resistance and galvanizing all his people towards non-violence.
