Guns are registered here because they are weapons that can be used for crime and presently are untraceable. Hmmmm...... So do you think the professional crooks use registered weapons? That a criminal can't file off the registration number and change the "fingerprint" a gun leaves on a bullet? Registration lets the gov't know which law-abiding citizens have guns. Probably useful information if the army ever decides to stage a coup and wants to disarm possible resistance. Other than that, I'm not sure it's particularly useful.
