One does not require an inside source to see what Syria wants to accomplish by selling upgrades Iraq for Saddam's air defense system.

1. If the upgrades allow Saddam to shoot down a coalition aircraft, Saddam will be destroyed, thereby increasing President Al-Assad's influence in the region.

2. If Saddam is not removed, Syria will have proved loyalty to Saddam, thus increasing Syrian security.

I think President Al-Assad's plan is a thing of beauty, truly. I wish Saddam was capable of being consistently this intelligent, instead of being 95% criminal and 5% genius.

Alas, if things continue as they are, President Saddam Hussein is a title we may never be able to say in the civilized world.

I predict that Israel may have to buy the Golan Heights, that is if President Al-Assad is even willing to part with it at any price.
