| You went to Easton, which is more than an hour down the road from Annapolis, on the Eastern Shore. It has marshland suitable for migratory fowl near the Bay. Did you ever get over to Assateague, by the Atlantic shore? The last time we went, the ponies were highly visible, and would crowd around the cars, eyeballing the passengers, before skittering off. Chincoteague, which has the annual round- up and auction of ponies, for the benefit of its firehouse, is also famous for its oysters, which are a little saltier than Bay oysters, and more delicate. Of course, it is hard to complain about the Bay produce. Blue crabs are found only in Maryland and the upper Gulf of Mexico. (A lot of "Maryland blues" in the Midwest and West are really from Louisiana). The are probably the best crabs in the world. Fancy restaurants in Paris even import them....... |
