-- DJ DJ-CNBC Survey:US Jobless Claims Seen Dn 41,000 Dec 14 Wk --

Dec. 14 Dec. 7 Nov. 30 Nov. 23
Forecast dn 41,000 up 25,000 up 11,000 up 9,000
Actual --- up 83,000 dn 10,000 dn 14,000
Total claims --- 441,000 358,000 368,000

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Most economists look for a pronounced decline in
first-time jobless claims in the week ended Dec. 14, partly reversing the jump
in the first week of December.
The median estimate of 14 economists surveyed Monday by Dow Jones Newswires
and CNBC is for a 41,000 decline to 400,000. A week earlier, claims rose by
83,000 to 441,000.
There are, however, some economists who look for a smaller change in the
latest week because they believe that seasonal adjustment factors understated
claims in October and November and will overstate claims in December.
The Labor Department is due to release the data at 8:30 a.m. EST (1330 GMT)
Thursday.
If the median forecast is correct and assuming that there are no revisions,
the four-week moving average would move up to 391,750 from 387,250.
