It seems simpler than that to me. The increase in number of outstanding shares merely reflects the way Iomega enters into bonus arrangements with some of its directors and staff. From time to time, when they judge the price is low, Iomega buys those shares back in the open market which also has the effect of propping up support.

There is a theiry that the "effective" float is the number of outstanding shares plus the number of shares shorted. From this one can estimate what the price of the stock would be if the short position dropped to zero. Someone might like to work that one out -- I've left my hand calculator at the office ...
