The US has a habit of making enemies of yesterday's friends. Saddam Hussein and Bin Laden were both close US allies during the 1980s.

I get the strong impression that the US now is going to try to screw all those trusting foreigners who have poured money into our markets under the rubric of a strong dollar.

Also important to realize that many of Bush's enemies abroad are doing all they can to dethrone the buck -- a symbol of US power and arrogance to many foreigners -- not just the terrorists.

That is one reason why the dollar may drop a lot more than the proponents of a modest decline are anticipating.
