Initial indications are that if Saddam were to be attacked, he will concentrate all of his forces around his capital, with as many as 100,000 of his men, including the Republican Guard. He could leave the oil fields and the borders to the north unprotected, but attempt to engage the US in a costly and bloody street war inside the capital.

The other strategy Saddam could attempt to carry out is a possible invasion or attack on Kuwait should the US use Kuwait as the supply line for the invasion.

Indications are that the US only has one line of supply - Kuwait, and that if it is cut off, the US will have no way to reach its troops to re-supply, which is a very dangerous situation.

There are estimates that if the street war were to erupt in Bagdad, the US dead could run into the thousands.

Think of Somalia, only multiplied many times.

The Shiites will be more than happy to install a radical Islamic state to suit their 80% majority in the event of democratic elections.

This will be interesting.
