Searle,

It sounds like he will borrow from the famed Japanese defence at Iwo Jima by General Kurbayashi which lead to 26,000 US casualties. In fact, it was 30,000+ if you factor in large numbers of battle fatigue cases in (official figures are smaller but one can see how reluctant the military might have been to admit they were willing to sacrifice so much for one island). Can you imagine fearing to sleep night after night because of so many fellow soldiers killed while they slept through Japanese night raiding strategy?

Kurbayashi's plan in a nutshell: don't show up at the door, but rather wait to set things on fire until the house is packed with targets. Then hit and run. I would expect Saddam to do better this time around unless he is dumb enough to listen to CNN armchair strategists. Of course, there is always the possibility he will panic and flee into exile somewhere.
