What gets into people? I don't know, sometimes people just go nuts! I wouldn't be at all surprised if it hadn't traumatized you for life. Jeez, Louise. At first I was greatly repulsed by that whole terrible scene, but it helped a lot when the poor guy forgave ol' Charlie later for shooting the blank gun at his legs and started laughing along with him believe it or not.... But I swear, I thought he was really killing the guy for a few moments when it was happening!
