Well, first of all aI think both sets of remarks are blown way out of proportion.

But, each remark is stupid and insensitive, Clinton's WRT a stereotype the Irish find offensive and Lott's because it can be seen as a tacit endorsement of segregation. I don't think either speaker meant the remarks in that way BUT those words in each instance can be seen as offensive. There is no denying that.
