It's a step in the wrong direction.
Yes, it is, John. But this time the "Dark Side" has a good argument. So those of us in the "Rebel Forces" are going to see it happen, I am afraid. As another poster has pointed out, this seems to be a step toward monitoring the overall networks, rather than individual messages. But it will proliferate, of course.
I suspect they want to set up the same way as the NSA, and sort and read messages by picking out certain words or phrases within them. Of course, this has been a failure for the NSA from what I can read.
They want to identify the ISPs, (I think that is the correct term,) of the Terrorists and then read their messages. They have had some success with doing this with the Cell Phones of the Terrorists, and want to expand to the internet. They are obviously going to do this without Court Orders, Who would be able to monitor them? If they are non-citizens or overseas, it would be totally legal.
How do we stop "Big Brother" and do we want to? Certainly the "PC" before 911 was a least an excuse not to monitor the potential terrorists more closely. And "Profiling" is still a cry against needed intelligence. It is not an easy area to monitor. |
