It would also make sense for Microsoft to spin off its applications software so that division could make more money supplying software to competing systems, such as Linux. Hey, it's not profits they want as much as control. These other guys are more interested in control and self agrandisement. Contrast this control mania with QUALCOMM. Read some of the recent books on management and the only conclusion you can draw is that QUALCOMM does all the right things.

Today, eleven years into its publicly traded existence, Qualcomm has generated a little over 600 million dollars of shareholders’ equity net of additional paid in capital. Eleven years into its publicly traded existence (June, 1997), Microsoft had generated 5.3 billion dollars worth of shareholders’ equity net of additional paid in capital, and through today (June, 2002), MSFT has generated approximately 20.5 billion dollars worth of shareholders’ equity net of additional paid of capital. At this point, Dr. J’s performance is like a flea on an elephant’s ass compared to Bill Gates’ performance. Imho, Bill Gates’ management and performance has been light years ahead of Dr. J’s performance. The numbers simply don’t support your conclusion that Dr. J has been more interested in profit while Bill Gates is supposedly more interested in control and self aggrandizement.
