A whole lot of back slappin' going on @the New York Stock Exchange as they announce the bs settlement. Regulators announced an agreement Friday with the largest U.S. securities firms that will overhaul Wall Street stock-research practices in a settlement that will cost the brokerage firms $975 million in fines. Under the historic agreement, the firms also will pay $450 million over five years to pay for independent research for investors and $85 million for a nationwide investor-education program. "In the end, this case was about one thing: ensuring that small investors get a fair shake," New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer said in a joint statement by regulators. "The people on Main Street must have confidence in the people on Wall Street. This agreement will help rebuild that confidence. ___________________________________ It almost seems like it has a bow wrapped around it... I would feel better if people went to jail, or better yet maybe a public stoning?? _________________________________________ Remember this?> The settlement is among the largest deals ever crafted with Wall Street to end an investigation; the largest to date was the $1 billion civil settlement in 1996 to resolve charges of price fixing by dealers on Nasdaq stocks. They will just figure out a new way to fleece the public, count on it...
