How many ordinary citizens of Ireland, Northern Ireland, or Irish-American descent cared much about this whole thing? I don't know. Did it fit into a pattern that could be construed as bigoted against the Irish? No. Is Clinton of Irish extraction? Yes. Did it in any way suggest an endorsement of oppression of the Irish, or did it merely touch on a stereotype? The latter. Apples and oranges......
