The Financial Post reports in its Friday, July 25, edition that United Keno Hill Mines will make another attempt to reactivate two long dormant base metal mines in the Yukon. The Post's Paul Bagnell writes that the Bellekeno and Silverking silver-lead-zinc mines have been inactive since 1989, when they were shut down due to low silver prices. United Keno reached an agreement on Wednesday with NDU Resources and Yukon Gold and Mineral Development Company to restart
the mines and, later, between four and six other dormant mines in the Yukon.
Yukon Gold has agreed to raise $2 million in a private placement, with the money being used to resume production at Bellekeno and Silverking. A further $5 million to $7.5 million will be needed to complete the project to bring back as many as six United Keno mines into production.
