Weights

N -- is would be nice to know
* -- is just about all you need to know.
A -- adds to economics

1. pipe being in a regionally low geotherm (<40 mw heat radiation per sq metre).

weight 20 Quality NA

2. pipe being about ~50+ miles of craton/archon edge, or in euogeosyncline.

weight 10 Q-NA

3. large size of pipe.

12 Quality A

4. other economic pipes being in proximity

15 Q-N+A

5. high diamond content of pipe field.

12 Q-N+A

6. tendency for pipe to be crater or at least diatreme facies at surface.

17 Q-A

7. uniform lithology of pipe (some pipes are dual lithology).

14 Q-N+A

8. low oxygen fugacity of pipe (low diamond resorbtion on ascent).

15 Q-A

9. tendency of pipe to form large diamonds.

19 Q *A

10. presence of eclogite in rock mass.

18 Q-N+A

11. copious micro diamond content (rough indicator and lack thereof does not rule anything out).

17 Q-A*

12. presence of large number of deep purple, unfaceted pyrope. Kelyphitic rims is a good sign.

19 Q-N*

13. 14% or thereabouts of the pyrope having greater than 5.1% chrome and less than 2.6% calcium.

25 Q-*

14. general garnet population being high in nickel if pipe is low in pyrope.

25 Q-*

15. chromite population including ones with greater than 68% chrome.

25 Q-*

16. presence of huge macrocrysts.

14 Q-NA

17. pipe being high in magnesium, high in potassium; low in calcium and aluminum by whole rock analysis.

12 Q-A*

18. presence of perovskite.

12 Q-N

19. mica with reaction rims of reibeckite.

12 Q-N

20. highly serpentinized olivine.

8 Q-N

21. deep colour index of kimberlite rock mass (not a universal indicator and may be misleading)

8 Q-N

22. high quality of diamonds found.

14 Q-A*

23. presence of rare diamond types.

17 Q-A*

24. lots of diamonds of large size found :)

25 Q-* partly A too.

**************

185 would be a good score. But a diamond mine could have from 25 to 100 depending on how much info in what category you are able to gather. 25 in * category is all that is necessary. 75 in A* category is hopeful, while in the AN category you would need perhaps 125 or more. In the N category you would need 180 I would think.
