(1) You did knowingly and willingly agree to the conditions (2) By giving you access to classified information, the gov't does in fact acquire a legitimate interest in information you disclose publicly and privately. I know and you know it.
I don't have any objections on either of those points. But it's a question of applying (2). I'm glad you mentioned "privately". No one gets permission to allow private discussions. It would be insane if everyone who had signed statement got permission for everything they said.
So while the government has an interest, there is some amount of trust that is necessary whether the security office likes it or not.
I know plenty of people that don't abide by the rules when prepping their resumes. That's got a higher probability of having something in it that shouldn't be there. They aren't supposed to disclose what entity they work or have worked for, then the describe the types of work they did and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out where you worked. .... which reminds me of another absurdity in the community. Each entity has it's own unique word to be used in public. That's bad OPSEC, have one that covers all of them. Right now, you can fill out a form at a department store and indicate that you're a "Federal Employee", "Dept of Defense" employee and the person in the dept store says....oh, you mean _____. There was one entity that used to use, "I can't tell you where I work."...Thanks, I know only one entity in the area you live that uses that line. Yup, that's the place. Who are we fooling?
Which brings up another point: Those conditions must also apply to info we put on the internet. Do we have to clear each post with No Such Agency and the Company? :-) ( Or maybe not :-) )
I've actually thought about that. Is this "publishing"? If I was objective, I'd say absolutely. But I'm not, so I'll say I'm not sure. <s>. I use jttmab, not a real name. So I'm not really publishing anyway. You, on the other hand, might be using a real name, in which case your rationalization is a bit tougher.
